Sophie Richings - Principal and Musical Director

Dip LCM FDE

Born in Swindon and from a musical family, Sophie's love of music was evident from an early age.  As a child Sophie always pretended to be a choir mistress and put on shows for the family.  At the age of 6, she began singing lessons and started working towards her ABRSM Grades. Sophie has trained with a large Show Choir and took instruction from Vocal Coaches including Janice Thompson to gain her Grades and Diploma in Musical Theatre.  For dancing, Sophie trained at The Tanwood School of Dance and later attended Summer Workshops at Performing Arts Schools including Laines Theatre Arts. She has taken part in many Music Festivals and competitions and has successfully completed voice grades 1-7 with the Associated Board (ABRSM) and Grade 8 Musical Theatre (LCM). Sophie has gained her Diploma in Musical Theatre with the London College of Music. She also attained Grades 1-5 Piano and Theory (ABRSM) and is continuing her own development by attending workshops and undertaking training to become a Certified Estill Teacher (refer to www.estillvoice.com) to ensure that each of her students receives the very best in vocal tuition, understands the importance of technique and how to improve their voice whilst staying healthy.

Sophie has sung in many performances of Bill Kenwright’s touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and A Tribute to Abba plus various other shows and private performances. Whilst living in Ireland, Sophie took part in various productions and pantomines. She reached the quarter finals of the All Ireland singing competition and was the chosen soloist for Elaine Paige on her visit to Ireland.  When time permits Sophie sings and performs as a backing singer to her brother, Rob Richings, who is a singer/song writer.

At the age of 16 Sophie took up a full time place at The Judith Hockaday School of Dance and Drama where she completed her “Foundation in Dance Instruction” (FDI) and “Certificate in Dance Instruction” (CDI) in ISTD Imperial Ballet, National Dance, Modern Theatre Dance and Tap Dance. Performance

experience includes: Thoroughly Modern

Millie, My Fair Lady, Singing in the Rain,

Godspell, Bugsy Malone (Fizzy), Fiddler on

the Roof (Hodel), The Sound of Music (Brigitta). She was also a dancer for BBC's Tess of the D'urbervilles. Her passion for performing has seen her sing locally with SALOS and Ten In a Bar.

Today, Sophie is successfully running her own Music School offering a diverse range of classes, 1:1 private tuition and workshops to offer people of all ages and all abilities the opportunity to sing.  Sophie previously taught at the Judith Hockaday School of Dance tutoring students in Musical Theatre and various genres of Dance.

Sophie also trained the senior students in the College in Musical Theatre and Voice. She has over the years worked at and delivered workshops for various Dance and Performing Arts Schools in both the UK and Ireland. Sophie happily offers local schools workshops for their students and will undertake Corporate Team Building Days to inspire, motivate and build confidence. She has worked with over 100 pupils at the Commonweal School undertaking a day of Glee style music and a primary school with their end of year production. Workshops are best to be undertaken at our Studios but we will work with students/employees at their place of school/work.  Sophie performs at various events throughout the country and is qualified to offer Voice Coaching and Choreography.

With 13 years of teaching experience behind her, 'Everybody Sing' is rapidly becoming a fast growing venture with something to suit everyone from Choirs to Glee Clubs, Close Harmony Groups, Private Vocal and Performance Tuition to Musical Theatre, Musical Theatre Classes for children ages 4-17 and Adult Musical Theatre for those who love singing, acting and performing. Everybody Sing has it's own Theatre Company for ages 7 to 16 yrs where students train in the Arts to perform in full Musical Productions (generally two shows per year). The school also offers Piano, Theory and Drama (both private 1:1 lessons and group classes).

Sophie and her team offer ad hoc lessons to anyone for that special occasions or for students who wish to audition for Performing Arts Colleges or Shows. Students learn in an inclusive environment. Sophie will enter students for examinations under the ABRSM, LCM or Trinity Boards covering all styles of music. LAMDA exams are also being offered.  Her choirs have undertaken charity performances at the Christmas Lights switch on and have sung for various Care Homes and for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust in Swindon.

Sophie is sure that her love and passion for singing and music will be passed on to all her students.

Everybody Sing is delighted to have worked alongside Headways delivering Music Sessions to people with a brain injury and on behalf of BARNARDOs across Wiltshire (Salisbury, Marlborough, Trowbridge and Chippenham). We have also delivered music sessions for those people living with Dementia and for adults and children with additional needs.
